Mundan ceremony



Munadan ceremony rituals .. its boys baby first removal of hair.In 1/3/5 year. Auspicious day and time. The hair of the child is cut with scissors. The shaven head is washed with holy water (Gangajal). Then a paste of turmeric and sandalwood is applied. It is believed that this mixture cools the head and speeds up the healing of any nicks and cutsThis is disposed off in the evening in the roots of bamboo tree or in a river. Durbakshat and chumaon are performed. Feast is held or sweets distributed among the guests.

Some families take their child to a holy place such as a temple, for the first haircut. Others may go to the banks of a holy river like the Ganga.

















The next important ceremony after annaprasana and Namankaran in hindu child life is mundan. Shaving the head is termed as "Ayushkarma " in Sanskrit . It means enhancing the longevity or life life span of the child. The child hair at the time of birth is not strong and the mundan ceremony ensures that hairs roots are strengthened and strong hair is formed.Many also believe that a mundan rids the baby of his past life's negativity,protects the child from the evil eye,helps to keep the baby's head cool, especially in hot summer months and bestows a long life and a good future.
